Driffield Methodist Church

Eco DMC

ECO MISSION STATEMENT

The vision for our new church building was one of sustainability and environmental awareness, and since its opening, in 2020, the Driffield Methodist Church Community has been committed to caring for God’s creation and helping preserve the natural world and stopping its destruction. Pollution, waste and climate change are causing a crisis not only for creation but for the whole of humankind. We all have a responsibility to look after our environment, nature and climate. Our Church is committed to helping address the world’s problems  and seeking to play our part by pursuing eco sustainable goals through actions in faith, practice and mission

NOTE FROM RSPB 2025

Thank you for taking part in Big Garden Birdwatch. We hope you enjoyed your one-hour nature break. You joined hundreds of thousands of people, all around the UK, in helping us to paint a picture of how our garden birds are faring. It’s been wonderful having you with us – why not take the next step and become a member to help protect birds every day?

ECO Meetings

The last Eco Meeting was held on 14 February 2025. We discussed the aspects of three supplementary questions for the submission and the answers to a number more. A plan was drawn up to execute actions to facilitate this next step. The next meeting will be 2 May 2025 at 1000 hrs to review the final submission.  As ever, all are welcome to attend.

THERE ARE ECO-TIPS IN THE DMW EVERY WEEK. IF YOU HAVE OTHERS, WHY NOT SHARE THEM BY PASSING THEM TO BRENDA.

                                 Net Zero JPIT

This is the question posed by Joint Public Issues Team. Our engagement with ROCHA and many other initiatives place us on the right path. But there is so much more we could do, but only if we are pro-active. Perhaps you would like to read these articles and compare our position with these aims, and indeed each one of us and our own standing on this important topic. Click here to go to this website.

"What we do with money, how wealth is shared, including through our tax system, and how money is used by investors, banks, and companies, determines the kind of world we live in. As Christians, we know Jesus had lots to say about our use of money and that we are called to act justly and speak out for change. We have a vision of a world where money is used to shape a fairer, greener future for everyone."

Action for Hope

Important information about the upcoming Annual Returns

Each year, on your behalf, a member of the Property Committee completes a series of questions that cover many aspects of church life. Many churches have not got the volunteers to do this and it is a certainty that only lip service is paid to it. Happily, the Methodist Church has recognised the limited value of these returns and are replacing them with a new theme as below.

Now, Annual Returns are in two parts. The first focusses on Action for Hope, and throws a spotlight upon our plans to get to Net Zero.

Here are the "Six Steps to Net Zero" in one document:

If you would like to read further please follow this link (external website) to Action for Hope on the Methodist website:

Incidentally, all the questions in the original Returns still require a response, but to Circuit and District.

SAVE OUR WILD ISLES

"We now have a few short years during which we can still make a choice. Where just enough remains of the natural world for it to recover. This starts and ends with us.”
